there are a number of different kinds of devices – Thaumatrope, Phenakistoscope, Zoetrope, Praxinoscope. I reccomend making a Zoetrope
The device is basically a cylinder with vertical slits around the sides. Around the inside edge of the cylinder there are a series of pictures on the opposite side to the slits. As the cylinder is spun, the user then looks through the slits producing the illusion of motion.
It’ll take a little bit of figureing out. Put between 8-12 slits on the cylinder then measure a piece of paper to fit the circumfrance of the cylinder and devide it into 8-12 squares each square should line up across from a hole.
the holes are put on the top half of the cylinder, the paper fits in the bottom, and you look down at your animation cycle. The last image should lead into the first, a bouncing ball is the best thing to start with. 1 is the ball hitting the ground 5 is the highest point and 8 is right before it hits the ground. The rest are the in between pictures gradually moving towards the next image.
Good luck!
