Why do so many kids think that “emo” is a fashion statement?
Ashleigh the Amazing asked:
Emo is a music genre, not a fashion statement.
Being preppy now means that you wear Hollister and A&F
There are so many different things,
but these seem to be the worst.

Why does everything fall under some stupid stereotypical label?
Im aware of how teenagers act.
I am one.
Thats why I said KIDS because there was this 11 or 12 year old kid asking for advice on how to be emo.
DVD’S Under $1

Emo is not music genre. Emo is being emotional and not just kids think it. Punk is called emo

I totally agree, just dress how you want and do what you want! And then they pretty much shun everything that doesn’t fit into their stereotype, it’s terrible. I don’t have a problem with people who dress “out there”, but just doing it to be doing it is stupid. And then they label themselves too…Erg…
And yeah, she’s right, emo is a a type of music. It’s a sub-genre of punk music. And I like *some* emo music, but I don’t dress “emo”. I think it’s a cool style if thats what your style is, but people try too hard to fit into it, and it’s defiantly not something I could pull off.

Emo is music. Emo is fashion.
When you listen to emo, you listen to emo and that’s that.
When you act emo, you are emo and that’s that.
When you look emo, it’s a fashion statement, and that’s that.
Just like there’s goth kids and goth music, metal kids and metal music, punk kids and punk music, normal kids and normal music.
Get used to it. That’s how teenagers work.

Because they’re kids. They have a need to belong and they can’t see that labels are just labels. It’s the same stereotype as cheerleaders date the geeks and dump their jock boyfriends. I was once in that phase and evlved out of that thinking, but I like my fashion sense because it’s me. Ask an emo how much they care of their appearance and they say they don’t. In a couple of years, that kid will change his/her ideas and leave that moping to the next generation.

Because humans have an overwhelming desire to classify things. Also because every piece of clothing does have a lable. Some labels just choose to make their customers walking billboards for their clothes (such as Hollister). And as far as the music genre thing . . . there have been tons of fashion statements broght upon the world because of music. So it looks like it’s Emo’s turn to become a fashion statement.

it doesnt. and preppy isnt hollister OR a&f.
emo is music, but if your emo, that means that your emotional, so, in a sense we are all emo.
however, kids now seem to classify “PUNK looking” clothes or stuff with lots of black as “emo”. and its true, they may be more emotional then everyone else, but whatever.
everything falls under a label because the world is a stereotypical place.
it doesn’t matter what label they put on you, just be yourself and over look their judgementality. i do
plus, some stereotypes are fun!
remember, we’re all unique
with love, dahling.
